The prestigious Green Tourism Business Scheme has announced its first award to a Bed and Breakfast in the Outer Hebrides.
Jannel Bed and Breakfast in Stornoway, run by former Comhairle director Helen Froud, has won the Green Tourism Silver Award. The award recognises good environmental practice in the tourism industry, and is a nationally-accredited award.
A number of larger island tourism businesses in the Outer Hebrides hold Green Tourism awards, but this is the first time that a Bed and Breakfast has been recognised in this way.
Helen said: “We are delighted that our environmental commitment has been recognised in this way. We are a small, local business, and we work hard to source most of our produce locally. We recycle using the local kerbside scheme and we provide facilities for tourists who want to spend their holidays in an environmentally-friendly way.”
Jannel Bed and Breakfast - www.jannel-stornoway.co.uk - is four-star accredited by VisitScotland, and in 2008 was a runner-up in the 'Who Cares Wins' local quality awards.
