A snifter of whisky

If you could think of a foodie smell related to The Highlands and Islands what would it be?

Well the VisitScotland Consumer PR team have been testing aromas and identifying foodie smells that tell a story related to specific regions across Scotland as part of the Year of Food and Drink Scotland 2015.

Regions across Scotland have been paired with a smell and placed on a map of the country in the form of a scratch and sniff postcard.

Designed as a quirky way of engaging with 150 lifestyle and travel media across the UK & Ireland, The Highlands and Islands has been given the lovely scent of the regions famous whisky, with an individual message for the region, which reads the following:

'Highlands & Islands – Scotland is home to over 100 whisky distilleries covering the length and breadth of the country. Wander along the Malt Whisky Trail to discover its origins or visit one of the islands to explore a world famous producer of the ‘water of life.'

The postcard is designed to stimulate the senses and of course connect The Highlands and Islands with a fantastic foodie product. The postcard also drives journalists to visitscotland.com to check out our foodie trails across Scotland.

Promoting Scotland’s food and drink is a recipe for success – the industry has the potential to provide significant growth for tourism and sampling traditional dishes and local produce is the second top activity undertaken by visitors to Scotland, so why not introduce your visitors to some of your regions local culinary delights?
