Superfast trip to Dornoch for Regional Director

VisitScotland delivers economic success by showcasing Scotland on a global stage as a place to visit and invest in. Our locally based Regional Directors are central to ensuring local success.

Scott Armstrong, VisitScotland's Regional Partnerships Director North, attended a members meeting of the Dornoch and Area Community Interest Company at the beginning of March, which saw the group outline their plans for a recent funding boost from the Coastal Communities Fund and VisitScotland Growth Fund.

VisitScotland’s £40,000 Growth Fund award is helping the group create a brand new marketing campaign designed to “put Dornoch on the map” and has match-funded the £80,000 ‘Discover Dornoch’ drive, which has seen 86 businesses in the Highlands town join forces to boost the domestic tourism market. The campaign is specifically targeting people in the UK who are looking for an ideal short-break destination. The campaign will allow potential visitors to create packaged experiences on the website.

The Growth Fund supports a range of regional, national and sectoral groups to deliver marketing campaigns to UK and international audiences. Find out more about the Growth Fund and how to apply at

This comes at a perfect time for the region as the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband project is making connections in the area, led by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). Members of a Dornoch focus group and Embo residents joined HIE and BT recently at the Embo’s green fibre cabinet to celebrate the arrival of the first services for Sutherland. Further roll-out is due to come soon in Dornoch and in Golspie, with areas in Brora, Helmsdale and Dunbeath amongst those due to start during 2015.
