Going for Gold

It was described as the ‘best ever’ Ryder Cup, and on 11 November, the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles earned a new accolade after being named the best sporting event at the Scottish Thistle Awards regional finals.

Held at Prestonfield House, the prestigious competition which celebrates excellence, innovation and success within the Tayside and Fife tourism industry, saw a total eight Perth and Kinross businesses, events and individuals take home prizes.

The winners were:

Best Sporting Event - 2014 Ryder Cup
Best Informal Eating Experience - Gloagburn Farm
Best Cultural Event or Festival - Perthshire Amber    
Most Hospital Hotel - Fonab Castle Hotel & Spa
Friendliest Pun/Bar - The Old Mill Inn    
Most Hospital B&B/Guest House - Craigmhor Lodge
Global Brand Ambassador - Lucy Whitehall, the Famous Grouse and Glenturret
Hospitality Hero - Graeme Pallister, 63 Tay Street

Winners will now go on to fly the flag for Perthshire and the wider Tayside & Fife region, at the glittering national Scottish Thistle Award final to be held as part of the Scottish Tourism Week Signature Programme at the EICC in March next year.

2015 saw a record breaking 615 entries submitted, including hundreds of nominations from members of the public keen to recognise hotels, restaurants, B&Bs, visitor attractions and individuals who go the extra mile to provide customers with exceptional service.
