Going for gold

Locally owned and family run, the Douglas Hotel on Arran was named the winner of the Fishers - Most Hospitable Hotel Award at the Central South West regional finals of the Scottish Thistle Awards.

Held at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel on 4 November, the prestigious competition celebrates excellence, innovation and success within the local tourism industry.

Praised by judges for helping make “amazing holidays for visitors and excelling in looking after all who visit”, The Douglas Hotel opened in May 2011 after an extensive refurbishment with the aim of offering visitors laid-back relaxation and professional, attentive service.

The Douglas Hotel will now go on to fly the flag for Ayrshire & Arran and the wider Central South West region at the glittering national finals of the Scottish Thistle Awards, held as part of the Scottish Tourism Week Signature Programme at the EICC in March next year.

The Scottish Thistle Awards is led by a panel of industry experts from several organisations including VisitScotland, the Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland, Scottish Tourism Alliance, Highlands & Islands Tourism Awards, Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards, Wild Scotland, Scotland Food & Drink and the Scottish Licensed Trade Association.
