Going for gold

Two Stirling businesses took home the trophies at this year’s Central South East Regional Thistle Awards on Wednesday 11 November.

Held at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh, the prestigious competition, which celebrates excellence, innovation and success within the local tourism industry saw a total of nine businesses and individuals from Loch Lomond & The Trossachs, Stirling & Forth Valley announced as winners or finalists.

Venachar Lochside, near Callendar, was named Best Informal Eating Experience against competition from Mimi's Bakehouse and Noble's Bar & Cafe in Edinburgh.

The Allanwater Brewhouse, at Bridge of Allan, won the Tennent’s Friendliest Pub/Bar award and was praised by judges for doubling its turnover in the past 18 months and teaching schoolchildren about the making of beer and the importance of safe consumption.

As regional winners, Venachar Lochside and The Allanwater Brewhouse will now go on to fly the flag for Loch Lomond & The Trossachs, Stirling & Forth Valley and the wider Central South East region at the glittering national finals of the Scottish Thistle Awards at Edinburgh’s EICC in March next year during the 2016 Scottish Tourism Week Signature Programme.
