Talking tourism, food & bridges

This week has been historical with the official opening of the Queensferry Crossing by Her Majesty the Queen. Bridges, such as the Queensferry Crossing, are a lasting reminder of a nation’s engineering expertise and never fail to attract global interest and it’s fitting that it should open during the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.

This week has also seen the launch of Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight – a celebration of our outstanding food and drink produce. The fortnight ties in with the our themed year, profiling a range of different food themes. If you’re taking part, remember to use #scotfoodfort to showcase what you’re doing.

And finally, over the weekend, news that Rough guide readers had voted Scotland the most beautiful place in the world was re-shared across social media and news channels giving the country some fantastic coverage. We are delighted that Scotland received this remarkable accolade, but it will not have been a surprise to anyone who has encountered our wonderful country.

Of course with great beauty comes great responsibility and we urge both visitors and residents alike to respect Scotland's natural assets to protect and preserve them for many generations to come.

There’s lots more food for thought in this month’s enewsletter – enjoy.
Kind regards

Malcolm Roughead, OBE
