Forres is a creative place

The 2015 Creative Place Awards winners were announced at the beginning of June at an awards ceremony at Falkirk Town Hall.  Forres was one of the regions celebrating after taking home a £100,000 Creative Place Award. The event was arranged by Creative Scotland in partnership with VisitScotland’s events directorate, EventScotland, and Falkirk Community Trust.

Launched in 2012, the Creative Place Awards recognise communities where people work together to celebrate and promote their town, village or area through the arts and culture - enabling them to build on their strengths and to try new things.

As well as attracting tourists and inward investment, creative and cultural activity helps to support and shape our communities and places – fostering and reinforcing people’s sense of identity and community cohesion.

The Forres area community will use the award to support and promote local arts participation in Culture Day 2015; Findhorn Bay Arts Festival 2016; Project ARTS; and Culture Café events. EventScotland supported the Findhorn Bay Arts Festival in 2014 as part of the Homecoming Fund and awarded the event £35,000.

VisitScotland continues to support Moray Speyside through its Events directorate funding programme including:

  • Piping Hot Forres
  • Seafest 2015
  • City of Elgin BID Food & Drink Festival 2015
  • Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival
  • World Orienteering Championships
