Scotland played host to a major international business tourism event, bringing together a wide mix of meeting and conference organisers from across the globe.
The flagship event, Scotland Means Business, organised by VisitScotland’s Business Tourism Unit, was held at The George Hotel, Edinburgh, Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th May, welcoming some 40 buyers from key business tourism markets including the UK, North America, Germany and Spain, as well as important emerging markets in the form of Russia and India.
The purpose of the two day event was to bring together meeting planners from around the world and let them experience first hand some of the country’s best venues, suppliers and event providers, enhancing the status of Scotland as a world-class destination for meetings, incentive travel and corporate hospitality.
Each guest had the opportunity to discover venues within Scotland corresponding to their conference, meeting and incentive needs through a workshop at The George Hotel. Attendees participated in a series of planned 15 minute face to face meetings, with over 40 venues, hotels and event organisers showcasing the very best Scotland has to offer.
In addition to the two day event in Edinburgh city centre, delegates from the UK, North America, India, Russia and Germany will be participating in familiarisation trips to venues in Edinburgh and the Lothians. Among the venues to be highlighted will be Edinburgh Castle, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Hopetoun House and Kalpna Restaurant.
