Looking back with Food from Fife

Last year saw an increase in activity from Food from Fife, which has resulted in a positive impact on food and drink businesses across the region.

A not for profit network, Food from Fife encourages food and tourism businesses from across Fife to work together. Its 47 members range from artisan food and drink producers to large-scale manufacturers, chefs and hospitality businesses to colleges and food photographers.

Activity has included a series of networking events and familiarisation (fam) trips to encourage greater collaboration between hospitality businesses and food producers. The first fam trip kicked off this month (16 January) which facilitated local kitchen and front of house staff to visit local food producers.

As part of the trip, the group visited Balgove Larder, St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company and Jannetta's Gelateria, who recently scooped VisitScotland's Taste Our Best award.

This activity aims to drive forward food tourism in Fife and increase the amount of local produce used across the industry.

Food from Fife also supported funded trips for members to attend Glasgow’s BBC Good Food Show, Birmingham’s Food & Drink Expo and London’s Speciality Fine Food Show as part of Fife Council’s Learning Journeys Fund.

Business training opportunities have included free PR workshops and a specially tailored social media and food photography day.

In 2016, Food from Fife hosted various press trips and partnered with VisitScotland and Fife Council on press stunts and a bloggers conference and provided members with media opportunities.

Coverage generated for Fife has included a double-page spread in national food magazine Olive, which has a print and digital reach of 350,000 people as well as regular member recipes in Scotland-wide media outlets.

Coming up…
Activity includes working with the Dunfermline and West Fife Local Tourism Association on a showcase of Fife produce on 23 February, the opportunity to fund members exhibiting at trade and consumer shows, and continuing with the programme of familiarisation and networking events.
