Ayrshire & Arran's highlights 2016

A series of successful major events – including The Open, The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open and The Scottish International Airshow – helped Ayrshire & Arran enhance its reputation as a first-class visitor destination during 2016 and made the year a highly successful one for tourism in the region.

Looking back on the many highlights for the industry, VisitScotland Regional Director, Annique Armstrong, reported that it was another very strong year. This was due to a range of factors, including the superb array of excellent events – repeat and new – hosted in the region during Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016.

Throughout 2016, VisitScotland continued to work closely with partners to promote the region. Our annual seasonal marketing campaigns created over 13 million opportunities to see messaging on Ayrshire & Arran.

This year looks set to be another excellent year for events across Ayrshire & Arran with an equally full calendar scheduled. There a number of new highlights, including, later this month, Burns Alicht – an entertaining celebration of the poetry and songs of our national Bard which will feature special illuminations of Burns landmarks.

VisitScotland will also be working with tourism and hospitality businesses to help them capitalise on the business development opportunities offered by the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017. Ayrshire & Arran boasts a rich abundance of assets and icons related to these themes, so we’re well placed to take full advantage of them.

With this and so much more to look forward to over the coming months, 2017 could well be the most successful year yet for tourism in the region. Download the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology industry toolkit for more opportunities.
